ENVIGA: Cokes New Negative Calorie Drink
( New York Daily News, Oct. 13, 2006 )
People have been drinking diet beverages for nearly 50 years, but it hasn't helped our bulging waistlines. Tab, the first generation of diet soft drinks, was introduced in 1963 followed by Diet Coke in 1952.
Many people were fat or obese in those days, but the population was downright skinny compared to Americans today- Coke's latest innovation is a drink called Enviga that actually burns calories during the day. Flavors include green tea, berry and peach.
The beverage contains green tea extract and caffeine, which speeds metabolism and energy use. Drinking three cans a day will burn an extra 100 calories. Coke's sales have been in the doldrums since 1998. Enviga may restore the company's position as the darling of Wall Street.
